Man City held ahead of Liverpool clash with new injury blow for Guardiola

Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League ahead of their meeting with Jurgen Klopp's side this weekend.

Liverpool take on Pep Guardiola's reigning champions in a huge Premier League clash on Sunday, with the Reds leading City by six points after 11 games.

They got the job done against Genk with a 2-1 win on Tuesday night, however, City failed to do the same in their meeting against Serie A side Atalanta.

Guardiola's side led 1-0 at the break after Raheem Sterling scored early on and Gabriel Jesus missed from the spot-kick to double the advantage.

Goalkeeper Ederson played the opening 45 minutes but was withdrawn at half-time, with early suggestions that the Brazilian suffered a 'minor injury'.

The hosts went on to equalise through Mario Pasalic, who nodded home from close range to earn Atalanta a point. A chaotic ending for City saw stand-in keeper Claudio Bravo sent off, with Kyle Walker replacing him between the sticks in the closing stages.

Whilst the result doesn't affect City's chance of progressing to the knockout stages, the injury to Ederson will be a concern for Guardiola, who will hope it's nothing too serious.

The Spaniard has dealt with various injuries to his squad this term, with David Silva also picking up a muscle injury earlier this week.

Guardiola has been coy about the 33-year-old's availability, but he is likely to be out of the clash at Anfield alongside Rodri, Aleks Zinchenko, Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte, who are all sidelined with knocks.
