Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is wary of being too predictable as he says he is willing to rotate his squad in order to surprise his opponents.
The Reds brought in Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson in the summer, allowing the manager more luxury when it comes to rotating his squad compared to last season.
Liverpool have high ambitions in all four competitions this season and with games coming thick and fast, Klopp will have to use his squad to keep his key players fresh.
Saturday's fixture against Southampton will be Liverpool's third match in a run of seven games in just 23 days and Klopp says he is inclined to rotate not just for fitness, but for unpredictability.
“We are going to have use the boys now,” Klopp said.
“They are in good shape. You saw it with Daniel but Daniel is not the only one scratching the door. They all want to play. They want to feature and that is what we have to do for sure.
“It should not be that we are in any way predictable so that people say: 'Okay, that is how they play, 4-3-3, this is the front three, two of them can maybe change in midfield, the front line is always the same.'
“Yes, that's good but we have to create something where the boys not only push from the bench but they push with their performance on the field as well.
“We have to give opportunity but only if they are in good shape. Then it is my job to decide who will start.”
Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino was named on the substitutes bench against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday after recovering from an eye abrasion, but not playing part in any training sessions ahead of the game.
Daniel Sturridge replaced him in the starting eleven and impressed, with his header giving Liverpool the lead just after the half-hour mark.
With seconds to go and the game level, Firmino - who came on with 20 minutes to go - fired Liverpool into the lead to give the Reds all three points.
When questioned whether the Brazilian would replace Sturridge against Southampton, Klopp was hesitant, suggesting the duo could even play together.
“Yes, he's ready. Why should I think that about Bobby?” he said, when asked whether he could come straight back in.
“In general, so far there's obviously no reason to think about Bobby.
“Could they play together? Yes, of course.
“It was just positive, the impact Daniel had. An intense game, it was a fantastic game for him, that's the best news.
“Now we know more about that. A lot of games will come and so it's good to know about that.
“That's why I was so pleased with the performance. It's always easy that players say ‘now I play, but I have no rhythm'.
“He had minutes before then, and a lot of good sessions, so he had rhythm.
“He played really well, and the boys can play together as well.”
Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho are also hopeful of making their first Liverpool starts after a slow beginning to their Reds careers.
It remains to be seen whether Klopp chooses to rotate against Saints on Saturday, or if he'll be tempted to ring the changes for Liverpool's Carabao Cup meeting with Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday.
