Liverpool academy graduate Daniel Atherton has signed his first professional contract at Anfield.
The youngster was called up to Melwood from Kirkby by Jurgen Klopp and trained alongside the first-team during November’s international break.
Klopp is said to have been impressed with the talented youngster, who had his scholarship with Liverpool extended over the summer.
He signed his first professional contract with the club on Wednesday and he is now looking to continue his progress at Liverpool.
“Can’t say how happy I am to have signed my first professional contract at Liverpool,” he said.

“The hard work starts now to earn the next one.”
The 18-year-old has been part of the Reds’ academy for six years. He graduated from the club’s official education centre, Rainhill High School, also the former school of now first-teamer Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Atherton, who was born in nearby Haydock, made his debut for the Reds’ U18s side in a 2-2 draw with Wolves at Molineux in 2016.
He has been praised by several supporters for being involved with charitable causes, notably the Owen McVeigh Foundation.
“Daniel has been a huge help to the foundation at our events,” they said.
“Good luck for the future - you deserve everything for all your hard work and determination.”
