Liverpool will get to play in front of their home fans as the Reds host Bournemouth on Saturday, August 19th. Both teams are coming off a 1-1 draw in Matchweek 1 and they will be looking for a win.
Last season, Liverpool and Bournemouth played in two bizarre matches. The Reds tied a Premier League record by scoring 9 goals in the matchup at Anfield but suffered a shocking loss when they visited Bournemouth. Jürgen Klopp expects the result of this match to fall somewhere in the middle of those two.
“Something in between!,” he said. “They will go for it, that's how they did in the first game now. They will go for it, they will press us properly and, on top of that, they have an offensive approach. If you let them play they will play and if not they have an idea how to get in behind the line, that's the idea they have. It's not the most complicated football idea but it's a good one. But it's the first home game, maybe we should not forget that.”
New signing Wataru Endo is technically available as he has had a short training session upon his arrival, but it remains to be seen if he will have any minutes. Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are close to a return, but both have been ruled out due to injury. Bournemouth Centre-Back Lloyd Kelly will make his season debut for the Cherries while Lewis Cook will not travel with the team.
Liverpool have not lost a Premier League match in the last 12 outings. Their last loss was a 4-1 setback to Manchester City on April 1st 2023. Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to make his 200th Premier League appearance against Bournemouth trailing only Mohomed Salah in that category. Liverpool’s next goal at Anfield will be the 350th scored at home in the Klopp era.
I don’t expect Liverpool to win 9-0 like the last time they played against Bournemouth at Anfield, but I do think the Reds should win rather handily. They only held 35 per cent of the possession last week vs. Chelsea so I think that stat will improve and lead to multiple goals.
Kickoff is set for 15:00 BST (10:00 AM). The match will not be broadcast live in the U.K. but supporters in the United States can watch on the USA Network and a Spanish language broadcast is also available on Telemundo. Canadian viewers can stream the action via fuboTV.
