Mohamed Salah is to self-isolate after returning a positive coronavirus test on Friday, whilst on international duty with Egypt.
The Egyptian FA released a statement on Salah earlier in the day, confirming the Reds forward had returned a positive test, despite not showing any symptoms.
"Mohamed Salah, the star of Liverpool, was infected with the Coronavirus, after his test came back positive, although he does not suffer from any symptoms," the statement said.
The governing body deleted their initial update and added a new statement to say Salah would be re-tested along with three other players from Egypt and their opponents Togo's camps.
However, the Egyptian FA has confirmed a second test has also returned positive, with journalist Elsam Magdy saying:
"Mo Salah's second swab came positive for COVID-19 too, hence, he will be self-isolated till he recovers.
"Egyptian Football Association prepared a special room for Salah's quarantine, and another one to follow his state from the medical staff, and the national team's doctor is contacting Jim Moxon of Liverpool, Salah's morals are high and he has no symptoms.
"Amr El Ganainy, head of the normalization committee that runs the Egyptian FA, just confirmed that Salah won't leave Egypt till he gets recovered from COVID-19. He stated that his morals are high, and he feels very well with no symptoms."
Salah is now set to undergo at least 10 days in self-isolation, which sees him miss Liverpool's next clash - against Leicester City - on 22 November.
He will need to remain quarantined in Egypt, dashing Liverpool's hopes of him being allowed to return back to Merseyside immediately - with isolation precautions.
While current government guidelines allow footballers to use travel corridors, avoiding the need to quarantine, it is unclear whether those rules still apply as he is set to stay in Egypt for the next ten days.
The club is likely to contact UK authorities to seek clarification. He will likely be allowed to return after 10 days - which would see him arrive on Merseyside ahead of the Reds' clash against Atalanta on November 25.
But there is a small possibility that Salah may have to quarantine for 14 days on his return to the UK, which could see him miss five games - a huge blow for an already injury-ridden Reds squad.
Jurgen Klopp is without the services of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for at least the majority of the season, whilst Thiago, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all remain sidelined with injuries.
