Jurgen Klopp named six changes to the side that beat Aston Villa at the weekend as the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho and Naby Keita returned. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were kept on the bench.

They took the lead early in the first-half as Gini Wijnaldum finished from close-range with a deft touch after the ball richocheted favourably towards the Dutchman.

It looked like Liverpool would run away with the game, only for Genk to slowly find their way in the game and equalise ahead of half-time through Mbwana Samatta.

The Reds pushed on in the second-half and got their winning goal soon after as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored from outside of the box with a fantastic swivel and shot.

With Napoli drawing 1-1 at home to RB Salzburg in the other Group E fixture of the night, the Reds now lead the group with nine points.

They could wrap up qualification to the knockout stages with either a draw or a win against the Serie A side at Anfield at the end of this month.
